I know others who have visited Dr. Leading a supercapial fleet is a whole another animal. To the point where it can be very intense, your hands literally shaking, cyno dropping supers on grid when you know there is a chance of a counter drop is some insane gameplay. Supercapital warfare in eve brings real adrenaline, more so then any game ever has. Imagine in DAoC, you grind for a few years to get a rr12, and someone kills you, and that toon is erased forever. While DAoC had some of the best mechanics and many times I had so much fun back in day day that I would play all night! However, I started eve around 2005. "I would be very pleased if Simon did the stat's again to prove my point" - Im not sure thats how stats work. No, I actually like alot of the elements in the patch.ģ. I would be very pleased if Simon did the stat's again to prove my point about the population Simonġ. Even if you small man, you will still die to the fg+ of stealthers. If you solo, you pretty much die to fg+ of stealthers. Patch 1.121 made stealthers able to solo again, but stealthers don't solo, they group. Albs have just logged when they get wiped because mids have twice the numbers they do. While running with the zerg, there is a serious lack of numbers for Albs and Hibs. I've run for 3 hours, USA prime time, and be lucky to find one 8 man to fight. Patch 1.121 pissed off a lot of hard core players, and it didn't generate any new players who tested out the patch and stayed. That was significantly less than the bump that the NNF EV patch got, which lasted 2 months. The bump that the game should have gotten from patch 1.121 lasted all of 1 week. You either 1) work for Broadsword, 2) play stealthers so it "looks" like the game is fully populated, or 3) have your head in the sand, if you think the population hasn't taken a serious dive in the past 6 months. I dont think you are backed up by the stats unfortunately. With its failed patch 1.121, the population is as low as I have ever seen it. As an MMO, what do you offer that a player can't get from a FTP MMO? DAoC was able to offer superior PvP, but the many bad decisions have turned many of its hard core players away from the game. Even with that name recognition, WoW is losing subscriptions. If you aren't an MMO named WoW, with a huge subscription base and name recognition, you aren't going to be able to succeed as a subscription-based MMO. The EVE decision may be the future of MMO. When MMO players are given the opportunity to play a FTP game versus a subscription-based game that has made bad gaming decisions, most would rather go the FTP route.ģ. Broadsword needs to decide how to strategically approach the huge decline in subscription-based games. FTP will give DAoC time to try and fix/promote the game. Without that action, without PvP, the game is certain to die soon.Ģ. The population boost will keep the current paying player base, since there is now more PvP action. There are other options that Broadsword could offer to sell the FTP model that I won't get into (pay store with skins, selling supremacy pots for real money, selling race respec for real money, selling name respecs for real money, etc.). A FTP model could work like this: FTP players can't get the RP bonus from bugganes and can't get the RP bonus from guild buff (/gc buff rps). If DAoC goes FTP, there will certainly be a huge population boost that will introduce returning and new players to DAoC. Like DAoC, the last 2 years have seen a dramatic drop in EVE subscriptions.ġ. It had a loyal base of hard core players. EVE is as close to DAoC as any other game. You’re constantly being given missions, but pretty much all of them are “Drive here, find a parking spot, pick up your package, fly it to this other point on the map.” Even if you like games that centre around mundane tasks, this one may just put you to sleep.Īnd I’ve got to focus for a moment on that “find a parking spot” point. You fly around that ugly, confusing map making pick-ups and deliveries, and…well, that’s about it. You might be able to forgive this as an aesthetic choice, but personally, I found it added to the overall ugliness.Ĭloudpunk isn’t helped by the fact that the gameplay is generally pretty boring. To make it even worse, whenever you get close to…well, anything, you find out that the people and the world are all blocky and Lego-like. Oddly, the map - which is very confusing and very useless - makes it seem like Cloudpunk (the city, not the game) is brimming with points of interest, but when you investigate further you quickly realize that it’s mainly a whole lot of nothing. There’s sort of some story reasons for that - which I’ll get to in a moment - and the game is definitely going for a certain atmosphere, but more often than not, it feels like the developers created a city and forgot to fill it with people. On top of that, the city is pretty empty, so it all feels pretty desolate. On the one hand, the game takes place at night, so the darkness makes a bit of sense, but at the same time, the way it’s presented, everything just looks kind of foggy and dull. As you’re doing this, the world is mostly shrouded in darkness, and you can barely see a few buildings ahead of you. Cloudpunk is set in a sprawling city full of skyscrapers in a very literal sense of the world, and you pilot around your flying car around the eponymous city, making deliveries. You’ve just got to be okay with making a couple of pretty big allowances.įirst, you need to forgive graphics that give off pretty heavy “early days of 3D gaming” vibes. The season pass is also available to stream from most podcast apps, though it is slightly more limited (Spotify currently does not support the NoSleep Podcast's season pass). The NoSleep Podcast is supported by most podcast apps available for iPhone, Android, iOS, and Windows. As a bonus, Season Pass members are also awarded three additional episodes throughout the season. Season Pass membership includes bonus stories in each episode, increasing each episode's typical length to over two hours. Seasons of the NoSleep Podcast contain at least 25 episodes which each run for approximately one hour. It also allowed the show to expand releases to a weekly schedule. The Season Pass Program has been successful in not only sustaining the show, but also in allowing David Cummings to focus full-time on production. This is unique in that fans of the show (referred to as the "Sleepless") who are not a part of the program still receive free access to shorter versions of each episode, generally consisting of the first one or two stories, as they’re released. Just before the release of its 3rd Season The NoSleep Podcast unveiled the Season Pass Program, whereby listeners pay a one-time subscription fee each season to have access to 25 full length episodes, in addition to a selection of subscriber-exclusive bonus episodes. As the quality of the show increased, expanding from a 30-minute format to over two hours per episode, the show announced that it had become unsustainable without outside funding. The NoSleep Podcast began as a volunteer endeavor, with all expenses being paid for out of pocket by its core team. Special guests that have appeared on the podcast include Mike Flanagan, Kate Siegel, Samantha Sloyan, Elijah Wood, and Kurtis Conner. The NoSleep Podcast is also one of the few podcasts in its genre that pays its creative contributors. Grim, “What Happens When the Stars Go Out” by Jesse Clark, and “Psychosis" by Matt Dymerski. The NoSleep Podcast has also been featured stories from authors who have gone on to publish their works, including the “ Penpal” series from Dathan Auerbach, “99 Brief Scenes from the End of the World” by T.W. In 2015, the podcast was downloaded 600,000 times. Every year the show also produces a new collection of the flash stories in their “Suddenly Shocking” series and a retro radio drama series, “Old Time Radio”. New episodes typically air every Sunday and contain five or six stories per episode, not including bonus releases. The show also works with a number of artists to create original illustrations for each episode. The NoSleep Podcast theme was written by David Cummings and has evolved with each season of the show. Self-taught composer Brandon Boone, who joined The NoSleep Podcast in 2013, became responsible for the majority of the show’s music by Season 5. Despite horror arguably being a traditionally male-dominated genre, many of the narrators and authors of stories featured on the show, and also half of its 2 million regular monthly listeners are female. Regular voices on the show who provide narration for its stories include David Cummings, Jessica McEvoy, Peter Lewis, Nikolle Doolin, Nichole Goodnight, David Ault, Jeff Clement, Erika Sanderson, Addison Peacock, Mike DelGaudio, Atticus Jackson, Dan Zappulla, James Cleveland, Elie Hirschman, Kyle Akers, Alexis Bristowe, Jesse Cornett, Mick Wingert, and Erin Lillis. The popularity of The NoSleep Podcast rapidly grew as the production quality became more professional. During their first two seasons, David Cummings assumed the role of host and producer, working with volunteer Redditors to help narrate and produce content for the show. The idea was well received and a few months later a small group of members released the first episode of The NoSleep Podcast. With the popularity of NoSleep, a member named Matt Hensen proposed the idea of creating a podcast where the top stories from the NoSleep subreddit would be narrated in an audiobook style. NoSleep began as a subreddit, or forum, on Reddit where people would exchange scary stories and frightening experiences. I am a digital hoarder so I have digital copies of basically everything I've worked on for the last 30 years. NOTE: Place compiled executable into a folder containing original game resources (not included). It builds into bin and creates a Linux executable. Then I cloned the repo under WSL and built. Sudo apt install gcc clang build-essential cmake I just launched WSL (Ubuntu) and installed a few things to compile the code: sudo apt-get install libsdl2-image-dev It's an example of how powerful (and fun) virtualization has become on modern systems! If you don't think this is cool, that's a bummer. So, could I go Windows 95 -> Linux -> Windows 11 -> WSL -> WSLg and run this new native Linux executable again on Windows? Here, they've taken a Windows 95 32-bit app and decompiled it from the original EXE, done some nice cleanup, and now it can be recompiled to other targets like Linux. I recently did a YouTube where I showed that Windows 11 runs Graphical Linux Apps out of the box with WSLg. You'll need those from a Windows XP disk or ISO that you'll need to find yourself. NOTE: Because this is a decompilation/recompilation, it doesn't include the original data files. Award for longest blog post title ever? Andrey Muzychenko has a great github repository where they decompiled the 25 year old Space Cadet Pinball application from Windows 95/XP and then recompiled it for Linux (and really any platform now that it's portable code!). See this as a simple API usage example for your implementations.
